A dramatic police chase in Ahero, Nyando Sub-County ended with the seizure of a large consignment of suspected cannabis, authorities have confirmed.

According to the National Police Service, officers acting on a tip-off attempted to stop a suspicious vehicle on Thursday. The vehicle, however, failed to comply, prompting a high-speed pursuit through local roads.

The chase ended when the vehicle was abandoned along a feeder road, and its occupants fled on foot.

A subsequent search of the abandoned car revealed five bags containing 258 rolls of a substance believed to be cannabis sativa.

The vehicle has been impounded at the local police station, and investigations are ongoing to trace and arrest the suspects.

Police emphasized that the public’s cooperation is crucial in curbing drug trafficking.

“We urge community members to report suspicious activities as we continue our fight against narcotics,” the National Police Service stated.

The incident highlights the persistent challenges law enforcement faces in curbing illegal drug trade along transit routes in Kisumu County.

Authorities noted that such operations are part of broader efforts to crack down on narcotics networks affecting communities in the Nyanza region.

Residents of Nyando have been advised to remain vigilant and support police initiatives.

Investigators say they are following multiple leads and hope to bring the suspects to justice soon.

This latest seizure underscores the ongoing commitment of the National Police Service to disrupting the distribution of illegal substances and protecting local communities from drug-related crime.
