The National Police Service (NPS) has strongly condemned alleged misconduct by officers at Nandi Hills Police Station after CCTV footage circulated widely on social media, prompting the Inspector General to order a three-day investigation into the incident.

In a press statement released on Friday, the Office of the Inspector General said the Service was deeply disturbed by the footage, which shows what it described as serious and unacceptable conduct by police officers.

A preliminary assessment indicates the incident occurred on January 10, 2026, at the Nandi Hills Police Station in Nandi County.

The NPS stated that it was appalled by the actions captured on camera, describing them as barbaric and a clear violation of the law and professional standards.

According to the Service, the conduct contravenes the National Police Service Act, the Code of Conduct for Police Officers, and fundamental principles of human rights and human dignity.

The Inspector General has personally reviewed the CCTV footage and directed the Internal Affairs Unit (IAU) to carry out a comprehensive, impartial, and expeditious investigation.

The unit has been given three days to finalise its inquiry and establish the full facts and circumstances surrounding the incident.

The Service said it will work closely with other independent oversight institutions to ensure transparency and accountability throughout the process.

It added that any officer found culpable will face firm and swift action in line with existing laws, regulations, and disciplinary procedures.

While condemning the incident, the NPS sought to reassure the public that the actions depicted do not reflect the values, standards, or training of the Service.

It emphasised that the majority of police officers serve the country with professionalism, integrity, and dedication.

The NPS reiterated that all officers are expected to remain courteous, respectful, and professional in their interactions with the public at all times.

Any conduct falling short of these expectations, it said, will not be tolerated.

Members of the public with information that could assist the investigation have been urged to report to the nearest police station or share details anonymously through the designated toll-free numbers and reporting channels.

The Service reaffirmed its commitment to serving and protecting all Kenyans in a fair, lawful, and professional manner.
