Fresh claims have emerged over the circumstances under which the late ODM party leader Raila Odinga entered into a broad-based political arrangement with President William Ruto, with Saboti MP Caleb Amisi alleging that the move was the result of pressure from within ODM and covert negotiations.

Speaking during an interview on Saturday, Amisi said Raila did not willingly walk into the agreement but was instead drawn into a carefully planned process involving senior political figures.

He claimed the former prime minister was taken out of the country at a critical moment as political tensions escalated.

According to Amisi, Raila was moved to Dubai, ostensibly to keep him away from unfolding events back home.

He alleged that the trip was known to key ODM insiders and government-linked figures, contradicting claims that Raila was operating independently at the time.

Amisi further claimed that once Raila’s whereabouts became public, a delegation was quickly assembled to bring him back under controlled conditions.

He named Mining Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho and Suna East MP Junet Mohamed as among those who travelled to Dubai to facilitate Raila’s return.

The ODM legislator alleged that Raila was deliberately flown back into the country through Mombasa rather than Nairobi.

He claimed the decision was strategic and aimed at avoiding public scrutiny and internal party resistance.

According to Amisi, when Raila landed at the Mombasa State Lounge, senior figures allied to President Ruto were already present.

He alleged that the broad-based government agreement had been prepared in advance and placed before Raila for signing immediately upon arrival.

He further claimed that the presence of key government and ODM leaders at the venue underscored how far the process had gone before Raila appended his signature.

Amisi said these events were well known within political circles and challenged the narrative that the broad-based government was the outcome of open consultations or mutual political goodwill.
