It began quietly. I noticed my seven-year-old son was unusually tired and irritable, but I assumed it was school stress.
One night, I went to check on him and couldn’t find him on his mattress.
Panic hit me until I heard a small voice answer from beneath the bed. He had dragged his blanket there and fallen asleep on the floor.
At first, I thought it was a game or a phase. Children do strange things. But when I asked him why, his answer made my heart stop.
He said, very calmly, “The man who stands near the door can’t see me here.” I laughed nervously, hoping he was imagining things, but his face never changed.
