Following a Nairobi court’s orders in his ongoing hate speech case, Mumias East MP Peter Kalerwa Salasya has announced the launch of a nationwide peace initiative aimed at promoting unity and cohesion across Kenya.
In a statement issued on Monday, January 19, Salasya emphasized that the campaign would be fully compliant with the law and the court’s directives, which require him to publicly apologise and actively participate in activities fostering national harmony.
The MP described the initiative as non-partisan and inclusive, targeting youth, women, elders, faith leaders, and community stakeholders in every region.
He highlighted that the campaign’s primary goal is to strengthen social cohesion, dialogue, and mutual respect, especially amid growing political and social tensions.
Salasya called on faith-based organizations, civil society actors, community leaders, and well-wishers to contribute ideas, resources, and support to ensure the campaign’s success.
“No grievance, political, social, or economic, can ever justify violence or the loss of innocent lives,” he said, underlining his commitment to peaceful engagement.
The MP also pledged to conduct the campaign with discipline, humility, transparency, and strict adherence to the law, urging collective participation to achieve meaningful outcomes.
He concluded his statement by invoking divine guidance, praying for God’s protection over the nation and success for the initiative for the benefit of current and future generations.
This development comes as part of legal compliance in Salasya’s hate speech case, where he faces charges under the National Cohesion and Integration Act.
