Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma has publicly advised Embakasi East MP Babu Owino to reconsider his reported ambitions for Nairobi governor in 2027.

In a post shared on X, Kaluma warned that political and ethnic alignments may not favour Owino, noting that his Kikuyu in-laws have already endorsed Embakasi North MP James Gakuya as their preferred candidate.

The Homa Bay legislator argued that Owino’s name and identity could complicate his chances in the city, where ethnic and political calculations often shape electoral outcomes.

Kaluma urged Owino to adopt a strategic approach by seeking a partnership with Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja as a running mate in 2027.

He suggested that such an alliance would allow Owino to remain politically relevant while buying time for a stronger gubernatorial bid in 2032.

“Better late than never,” Kaluma wrote, emphasising that age and patience are on Owino’s side.

He framed the advice as a pragmatic way for the Embakasi East MP to navigate Nairobi politics rather than rushing into a potentially divisive contest.

The remarks have generated mixed reactions online. Some commentators praised Kaluma for offering candid political guidance, while others criticised the intervention as overly prescriptive.
