Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma has lauded Winnie Odinga for publicly expressing gratitude to President William Ruto, following remarks she made during a Tuesday interview at Citizen TV about the support her family received after the passing of her father, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
In the interview, Winnie Odinga noted that since her father’s death, President Ruto had been the only senior leader to check on and support the Odinga family.
“I can still like you and disagree with you. I must also be grateful for the honour and respect the President accorded my father when he passed on,” she said.
Kaluma echoed her sentiments on social media, highlighting the cultural importance of gratitude within the Luo community.
“Did we all watch our girl Winnie Odinga thank President Ruto for standing with Baba when he lived and for being a true friend of the family always, even after Baba left us to be with the Lord?” he wrote.
He added that gratitude is “embedded in the Luo culture – to those who do good to us, we say ‘thank you’ in words and in deed,” noting that President Ruto’s support would guide Winnie Odinga toward becoming a “great leader to honour Agwambo,” a reference to her late father.
Kaluma also issued a pointed warning to those he claimed had attempted to exploit Winnie Odinga for political gain.
“Meanwhile, those who imagined they could use our girl to divide the Jaramogi Family and the ODM party are in for a rude shock,” he said.
