Suba South MP Caroli Omondi has publicly challenged Suna East MP Junet Mohamed over alleged irregularities in the nomination process for the 2022 elections.

Speaking on X, Omondi called for accountability, asserting that public figures must maintain unblemished character to avoid deflecting scrutiny under the defence of fair commentary, truthful reporting, and protected speech.

Omondi shared an affidavit supporting free media, claiming that Junet Mohamed, also referred to as Junet Sheikh Nuh, never legally received a certificate of nomination from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) for the Suna East National Assembly seat.

He accused Junet of circulating forged documents, which he says have already triggered investigations and police action.

“The fact that several false, fraudulent, and falsified nomination certificates were circulating in the country is public knowledge,” Omondi wrote.

“Reports were made to the police, arrests were conducted, and some electoral commissioners were suspended. The certificates were recalled.”

Omondi further stated that he was recalled from Burundi to sign valid nomination certificates for the lawful nominees, none of whom included Junet Mohamed.

He described Junet’s actions as dishonest and called for investigations that could lead to prosecution, asserting that holding or claiming to hold such a certificate without authorization undermines the integrity of the electoral process.

This is the latest development in ongoing scrutiny of political nominations in Kenya, highlighting concerns over the verification of party endorsements ahead of elections.

The allegations come amid calls for stricter oversight in party nomination processes and increased accountability for public office holders.
