Suna East MP Junet Mohamed has defended ODM’s cooperation with President William Ruto’s administration, saying the partnership is already delivering tangible economic benefits to Nyanza and the wider country.

Junet spoke after accompanying President Ruto to Kisii County, where the Head of State launched the Nyota Start-up Capital Programme disbursement for Nyamira, Migori and Kisii counties.

Under the initiative, 8,820 young Kenyans received their first tranche of funding, marking the start of their entrepreneurship journey.

In a statement shared on X, the ODM director of elections said economic development in the Gusii region was central to the growth of Nyanza and Kenya at large.

He noted that leaders from the region, under the ODM party, had opted to work with the government through the Broad Based Government framework to secure “quick gains” for residents.

“The government is investing billions of shillings in public infrastructure projects that we expect to be completed before the forthcoming elections,” Junet said, adding that the Kisii visit underscored the administration’s focus on development-led politics.

The Nyota programme targets young entrepreneurs by providing seed capital and support aimed at reducing youth unemployment and stimulating local economies.

President Ruto used the Kisii event to reaffirm his administration’s commitment to inclusive economic growth, insisting that development projects would be distributed equitably across regions regardless of political affiliation.

He said youth empowerment through enterprise financing was a key pillar of his economic agenda.

Junet’s remarks come amid continued debate within ODM over its working arrangement with the Kenya Kwanza administration.

While critics argue the cooperation blurs opposition politics, ODM leaders backing the deal maintain that engagement is necessary to unlock development for their constituencies.

The Kisii launch also included the rollout of other development projects, reinforcing the government’s push to translate political cooperation into visible economic outcomes at the grassroots level.
