Media personality Willis Raburu has responded to a fan questioning his relevance after leaving Citizen TV, using the moment to highlight the importance of building a personal brand.

The fan had suggested that Raburu’s recognition was tied entirely to the station, warning that his fame would fade without the platform.

Raburu, who recently departed Citizen TV after years as a leading anchor, clarified on X that his career continues to thrive.

“Actually, I’ve made more money now than I have all my years in Citizen,” he stated.

He emphasized that while Citizen TV remains a respected and influential platform, his goal is to develop his own brand independent of any organization.

His response aligns with his earlier reflections on the difference between institutional power and personal influence.

Raburu has repeatedly pointed out that many professionals mistake job titles, access, or perks for lasting authority.

He cited examples of individuals such as Dr. James Mwangi, Bob Collymore, Michael Joseph, and Jeff Koinange, who have successfully built reputations that outlive any single institution.

Leaving Citizen TV marked a significant career shift for Raburu, who leveraged the platform for visibility while preparing to establish his personal brand.

“We should all build brands away from the big brands and be brands ourselves,” he told followers, stressing the value of transferable skills, credibility, and independent influence.

Raburu’s experience serves as a lesson for professionals navigating career transitions. Institutional titles may come and go, but personal reputation, skill, and ethics endure.

For Raburu, leaving Citizen TV was not the end of his visibility—it was a step toward demonstrating that a name can stand on its own, carrying both respect and opportunity beyond any single platform.
