Nominated Senator Karen Nyamu has dismissed opposition calls for President William Ruto to serve only one term, arguing that the campaign lacks political grounding and credible leadership.
In a strongly worded social media post, Nyamu questioned the enthusiasm of opposition figures who have recently joined anti-government ranks and are now championing the one-term agenda.
“I laugh when I see people who just joined the opposition loudly pushing the one term agenda. Who will tell them?” she wrote.
Nyamu argued that Kenya’s opposition, despite repeated attempts, has historically failed to remove sitting presidents through the ballot.
“Who will tell them that opposition in Kenya has only one fate even with fierce competition,” she added, suggesting that past electoral patterns favour incumbents.
She went on to downplay the prospects of potential 2027 presidential contenders, openly questioning their ability to defeat Ruto.
“This time round honestly I see no serious match for Dr. William Ruto. So when you shout wantam with your chest, are you betting on Kalonzo? Matiang’i? To beat WSR?” Nyamu posed.
The senator also dismissed the one-term slogan as premature, warning opposition supporters against presenting it as an assured outcome.
“Andikeni one term pole pole, msiiandike kama ni possibility,” she stated.
Nyamu further predicted that post-election disputes would dominate opposition politics after the polls. “After wantam there will be kimeibiwo. My advice is spare some energy for the Supreme Court ruling tears in September 2027,” she said.
Her remarks come as opposition leaders intensify criticism of the Kenya Kwanza administration over economic pressures and governance concerns, while Ruto’s allies project confidence ahead of the 2027 General Election.
