Police in Rabai Sub-County have strengthened security along the Mombasa-Nairobi highway following the arrest of three individuals linked to a notorious robbery gang.
The arrests came after prompt information from vigilant members of the public enabled detectives to mount a targeted operation in Mabirikani.
The suspects—Juma Ali, Hamisi Juma, and Benedict Chirodo—are believed to be part of a wider network that has terrorized truck drivers, particularly around Bonje area of Mazeras Township.
Authorities say the arrests mark a significant step toward improving safety for transport operators along one of Kenya’s busiest highways.
During the operation, police recovered a range of items tied to the gang’s criminal activities.
Seized property included foreign currency, two pairs of military-style boots, fourteen rolls of bhang, thirty-two pieces of mug glass, mobile phone chargers, two bales of carrier bags, and an HCL computer keyboard.
Many of these items are connected to multiple ongoing investigations at Mazeras police station, demonstrating the gang’s broad and organized criminal reach.
The suspects are currently in custody and undergoing processing ahead of their court appearances.
The recovered items have been secured as evidence, which will be presented in the forthcoming prosecutions.
Police officials have praised the public’s role in providing critical information, urging continued community cooperation to prevent highway crimes.
Authorities emphasize that these arrests are part of ongoing efforts to curb armed robberies and protect truck drivers along the Mombasa-Nairobi route.
This operation comes amid intensified security measures along major transport corridors in coastal Kenya, signaling a proactive approach by law enforcement to safeguard both drivers and cargo, and restore confidence in the safety of Kenya’s highways.
