Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika, in a ceremony attended by Lands Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome, on Friday issued 985 title deeds to internally displaced persons (IDPs), squatters, and integrated landless residents at Kisima Farm, Njoro.

Governor Kihika described the occasion as deeply emotional, noting the tears of joy from beneficiaries, some of whom have remained landless for the past 19 years.

She urged recipients to settle on their plots, build homes, raise families, and refrain from selling the land.

The county government has committed to supporting the new residents with infrastructure and services. Plans include drilling a borehole, constructing a dispensary, and building roads.

In collaboration with the national government, a police post will be established, and electricity provision will follow. Surveyors are scheduled to camp at Kisima Farm next week to demarcate plots for each beneficiary.

Governor Kihika emphasized the importance of peaceful coexistence among the new landowners.

This issuance forms part of the governor’s wider agenda to accelerate land ownership in Nakuru County.

Last year, the administration issued 3,000 title deeds in Kiptangwany, Elementaita, and additional titles are being processed for settlements across Ol Jorai and Banita in Rongai. Governor Kihika aims to issue 20,000 title deeds annually across the county.

The event was attended by Lands Principal Secretary Nixon Korir, Nakuru MPs Charity Kathambi and David Gikaria, Deputy Governor David Kones, Chief of Staff Peter Ketyenya, County Executive Committee members Stephen Njogu and John Kihagi, and local MCAs.

Residents expressed optimism that formal land ownership will provide security and enable long-term development, reflecting a milestone in Nakuru County’s land reform and settlement initiatives.
