Uganda’s CDF, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has announced a sweeping political ban on opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, preventing him from participating in any future elections.

The declaration comes days after President Yoweri Museveni secured victory in last week’s Thursday elections, in which Bobi Wine was the main challenger.

In a statement shared on social media, General Muhoozi stated that, “Whether Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu is in the country or not, I, as CDF, in the interests of national security and for the good of the commonwealth, ban him from any further participation in the electoral exercises of Uganda.”

He further warned that any individual or political group declaring allegiance to Bobi Wine would face annulment.

The announcement marks an unprecedented move by a military leader in Uganda’s political landscape, drawing immediate attention from local and international observers.

This move is likely to trigger legal and political debates over the role of military officials in electoral matters.

Uganda has previously faced criticism for restricting opposition activities, with concerns about the impartiality of electoral processes and the protection of civil liberties.
