The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has intercepted a major drug operation in Nakuru, seizing heroin worth Sh1.19 million and arresting a suspected trafficker.
Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) detectives apprehended 42-year-old Ephantus Kariuki Mwangi while he was riding a motorcycle, registration number KMEC 785W, carrying luggage that raised immediate suspicion.
A search revealed 397 grams of heroin, carefully concealed for transport. Investigators also recovered two syringes and needles, ten rolls of bhang, and three packets of Supermatch cigarettes.
The DCI confirmed that the arrest disrupted an active drug supply run, preventing the narcotics from reaching the streets.
“This operation is part of ongoing efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks in Nakuru and across the country,” the agency said.
Kariuki is now in police custody as detectives complete investigations ahead of his court arraignment.
Authorities emphasized that no trafficker, regardless of status, will be spared.
Reiterating its zero-tolerance stance, the DCI stated that relentless intelligence-led operations and multi-agency collaboration remain central to its fight against drugs.
“Our goal is to protect communities and ensure a safer, drug-free Kenya for all,” the statement added.
This latest bust highlights the ongoing commitment of law enforcement to curb narcotics trafficking and curb the social and economic harm caused by illicit drugs.
