National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has accused the Electoral Commission of deliberate manipulation of the National Voters’ Register, raising concerns just eight days before Uganda’s general elections.

In a statement on X, Bobi Wine claimed that despite a legal directive for the commission to release the voter register 14 days before the election, the data has not been made available.

He alleged widespread irregularities, including multiple entries for the same individuals, records of deceased citizens, and inconsistencies in voter details.

“He knows the amount of deliberate fraud in there,” Bobi Wine wrote, referring to Electoral Commission chair Simon Byabakama.

The NUP leader highlighted that when the party exposed some of these irregularities, authorities responded by arresting Dr. Sarah Bireete and the developers of the Fannon App, a tool designed to help citizens identify discrepancies in the voter list.

Bobi Wine added that even voter location slips continue to reveal what he described as “criminal schemes” by the commission.

Bobi Wine’s statement described the Electoral Commission as “incompetent, partisan, and fraudulent,” urging Ugandans to reclaim their country and hold the authorities accountable.

The remarks underscore growing tension between the opposition and the electoral body, as concerns over transparency and credibility dominate pre-election discussions.

As Uganda prepares for its elections, scrutiny over the voter register and election preparedness is likely to intensify, with opposition leaders warning that alleged irregularities could undermine the legitimacy of the vote.
