Political analyst Owiti Owayo has ignited fresh political debate after claiming that Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja is positioned to become Kenya’s sixth president, should President William Ruto secure a second term in 2027.
In a lengthy social media post, Owayo argued that Sakaja’s rise would be inevitable if Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua fails to block Ruto’s re-election.
According to the analyst, Sakaja’s future presidential prospects would not depend on whether he retains the Nairobi governorship, but rather on broader political realignments expected after 2027.
Owayo projected that Sakaja could serve as president between 2032 and 2042 if Ruto wins a second term, suggesting that current political manoeuvres under the Kenya Kwanza administration are already shaping post-Ruto succession politics.
He maintained that similar predictions about Ruto’s presidency were once dismissed, yet later materialised.
The analyst also made controversial remarks about Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, asserting that internal divisions within the Luo political base are a major obstacle to Owino’s future ambitions, including his expected bid for the Nairobi governorship. Owayo argued that such divisions could delay Owino’s long-term presidential prospects.
