Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has called for clarity on the events that led to the death of former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo in a road accident on Saturday morning.

In a statement posted on X, the lawmaker highlighted what he described as inconsistencies in the reported account of the crash.

Amisi said Jirongo left Karen at around 11.30 pm after spending time with friends.

“A person leaves Karen at around 11.30 pm, bids goodbye to his drinking buddies of many years,” he wrote, noting that Jirongo had “been seen to drink and drive safely to his home for many years.”

The MP detailed the journey, saying Jirongo reportedly drove through Southern Bypass, Kikuyu, Limuru, and beyond, navigating bumps, corners, and oncoming traffic smoothly.

He added that the former legislator passed Kinungi, where the mist was visible, and reached Gilgil, which he said looked like Westlands.

Amisi questioned how Jirongo only realized he was off his usual route upon reaching Naivasha.

“He suddenly realised this is not the route and he quickly needs to turn back after three sober hours of driving,” he stated, emphasizing what he views as inconsistencies in the timeline.

The lawmaker also referred to the bus driver’s account, which claimed he hit Jirongo’s vehicle to prevent harm to 65 passengers on the bus.

Amisi questioned why other vehicles reportedly present in a traffic jam were not affected.

“Both drivers seem to have agreed to square their difference without cropping in other cars on the said ‘jam’. Wonders will never cease,” he added.

Police have confirmed the crash and Jirongo’s death, stating that investigations into the cause are ongoing.

Road traffic authorities note that fatal accident investigations involve witness statements, vehicle inspections, and scene assessments before responsibility is determined.

Cyrus Jirongo, a former legislator and businessman, represented Lugari constituency in Western Kenya.

His death has reignited conversations around road safety, particularly on highways frequently used late at night.
