Truphena Muthoni meets president Ruto
Truphena Muthoni had a memorable visit to State House, Nairobi, where she met President William Ruto just days after setting a world record by hugging a tree continuously for 72 hours.
The meeting ended with several rewards, including a national honour and state-backed perks, recognising her efforts to promote environmental conservation.
President Ruto awarded Muthoni the Head of State Commendation (HSC) Medal for her exceptional dedication to climate action and public awareness.
“Truphena Muthoni is an exemplary young Kenyan whose dedication embodies the nation’s spirit,” the president said in a statement on X.
In addition, Muthoni was named an Ambassador for the 15 Billion Tree Planting Campaign, a key government initiative aimed at restoring forest cover and addressing climate challenges.

The programme is part of Kenya’s ongoing efforts to combat deforestation and encourage citizen participation in environmental protection.
The Kenya Wildlife Service and Kenya Tourism Board also extended a fully sponsored holiday package to Muthoni and her team.
The Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry pledged to facilitate her planned visit to Brazil to gain insights into global conservation efforts.
Muthoni’s 72-hour tree hug, which drew attention both locally and internationally, highlights Kenya’s ongoing environmental challenges, including deforestation and land degradation.
With her new ambassadorial role and national recognition, Muthoni is positioned to champion tree planting and conservation education nationwide, reinforcing the government’s commitment to sustainable environmental practices and youth leadership in climate action.
