Kenya’s courts could be under the shadow of drug cartels, according to a bold claim by Senior Counsel Ahmednassir Abdullahi.

In a statement on X, Ahmednassir said some judges in the High Court, the Environment and Land Court, and the Court of Appeal are allegedly under the control of powerful drug barons.

“These judges are treated as loyal members of criminal networks and are fixing cases for a range of clients,” Ahmednassir wrote, warning that corruption in the judiciary has reached alarming levels.

The senior lawyer said the situation is not just a judicial problem but a national security concern.

He urged the National Intelligence Service (NIS) and foreign intelligence agencies to investigate how drug lords may have penetrated these top courts.

Ahmednassir did not name specific judges or cases, but his allegations point to an influence that, if true, could shake public trust in the judicial system.

Kenya’s courts have faced corruption scrutiny before, with several judges previously investigated for misconduct.

Ahmednassir’s statement adds a new layer, linking Kenya’s drug trade directly to the administration of justice.

By press time, neither the Judiciary, the Judicial Service Commission, nor the NIS had commented on the allegations.

If verified, Ahmednassir warns, the cartel reach into the judiciary could have serious implications for justice, governance, and Kenya’s international reputation.
