President William Ruto has thrown his weight behind a KSh32 billion cement project in Kwale, calling it a “transformative investment” for Kenya’s industrial growth.

The announcement came after he witnessed the signing of a deal between Bamburi Cement PLC and Chinese firm SINOMA-CBMI Construction Co. Ltd in Nairobi on Monday.

The deal will see the two companies develop a new clinker production line at Bamburi’s Matuga plant.

Ruto said the project aligns with the government’s plan to mobilise KSh5 trillion in public and private investment to drive national development.

According to the President, the plant will not only strengthen Kenya’s industrial base but also support major infrastructure projects, including the Affordable Housing Programme.

He added that the venture will create jobs for young people and stimulate local businesses along the Coast.

“The new clinker production line in Matuga is exactly the kind of transformative investment required to drive our development ambitions,” Ruto said in his statement.

Bamburi Cement, one of Kenya’s largest cement manufacturers, supplies both local and regional markets.

SINOMA-CBMI Construction Co. Ltd brings international experience in industrial and cement projects across Africa and Asia.

The project is expected to boost regional industrialisation, anchoring manufacturing growth at the Coast.

However, details on the plant’s production capacity, number of jobs, and timelines for completion are yet to be released by the companies.

With this deal, Ruto signaled strong support for partnerships between local and international firms that translate investment plans into real action, underlining the government’s push for rapid national development.
