Former Nairobi Town Clerk Philip Kisia has shared personal memories of his long-term friendship with former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo, revealing plans they had on the day of Jirongo’s death.
In a statement on X, Kisia recounted the bond they had cultivated over more than three decades, offering a glimpse into the private life of the late politician.
Kisia traced their connection back to 1992 when his maternal aunt, Jane Manasseh, introduced him to Jirongo.
What began as a young businessman’s partnership evolved into a close mentorship and enduring friendship that extended beyond professional ties.
“Our journey started in business, but it became a friendship and mentorship that shaped much of my life,” Kisia said.
The former town clerk disclosed that he and Jirongo had planned to meet for lunch on the day he passed away.
“I imagine the grand plans we would have discussed; but now, my fellow dreamer is gone,” Kisia wrote, highlighting the abrupt nature of Jirongo’s death and the conversations that were left unfinished.
In his tribute, Kisia described Jirongo as a visionary with the ability to dream ambitiously in every pursuit.
He also noted Jirongo’s vibrant personality, saying the late leader “filled rooms with his laugh and presence” and had a deep commitment to family and friends.
These qualities, Kisia suggested, were as impactful as Jirongo’s public service, which included parliamentary representation and Cabinet roles.
The reflection also underscores the broader political landscape in Kenya, where personal relationships often intertwine with public service. Jirongo’s influence as a politician and mentor extended to shaping the careers and perspectives of colleagues and friends, including Kisia.
Closing his tribute, Kisia emphasized that Jirongo’s lessons on resilience, hard work, and loyalty will endure.
“I’ll miss his wisdom and laughter, but his lessons remain,” he said, affirming that the late politician’s legacy continues to resonate both personally and nationally.
