Siaya Governor James Orengo has finally addressed questions surrounding his periodic visits to State House, despite being a vocal critic of President William Ruto’s administration.

The governor spoke during a Monday night interview with NTV, shedding light on why he continues to engage with the seat of national power.

“I do not go to State House to beg; I go there on the basis that the Constitution requires equity and fairness in the operations of the national government,” Orengo said.

He explained that his visits are aimed at ensuring that Siaya County receives its fair share of national resources and development programs, regardless of political differences with the central government.

The governor, a veteran lawyer and seasoned legislator, emphasized that constructive engagement is essential to safeguard the interests of his constituents.

He noted that dialogue with the government does not contradict his role as a critic, but rather reinforces his duty to secure development for the people of Siaya.

“Criticism does not preclude dialogue. It is the duty of county leaders to engage with national authorities to secure development projects and resources for their people,” Orengo added.

Political analysts say Orengo’s approach highlights the delicate balance opposition leaders must strike between holding the government accountable and participating in national planning.

By maintaining communication with State House, Orengo ensures that his county is not sidelined in policy implementation or resource allocation.

Through these engagements, Governor Orengo seeks to show that political differences should not interfere with the equitable distribution of public resources, reaffirming that his priority remains the welfare and development of Siaya residents.
