Nyeri County’s upcoming presidential contest shows signs of unpredictability, with Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua leading in local preference polls, according to the latest survey by Mizani Africa.

The study indicates Gachagua commands 25.5% support, reflecting strong community ties and his influence within Mt Kenya’s political heartland.

President William Ruto follows closely at 20.3%, while former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka registers 15.3%, highlighting growing acceptance beyond his traditional regions.

Mizani Africa notes that 19% of Nyeri voters remain undecided, a segment that could significantly influence the final outcome once campaigns intensify.

On the party front, DCP dominates Nyeri’s political landscape, capturing 50.6% support among residents surveyed.

The party’s performance reflects its grassroots outreach and deepening presence across the county, far outpacing UDA, which holds 19.5% support.

An additional 18.3% of respondents identify with no party, signaling a sizable block of independent voters whose decisions could sway local election dynamics.

Historically, Nyeri has been a key battleground within the Mt Kenya region, where community affiliations and regional loyalty often shape electoral outcomes.

The prominence of DCP and Gachagua shows the continued relevance of locally rooted leadership, while Ruto’s base, though solid, appears fragmented compared to previous cycles.

Mizani Africa’s survey, shared on X, provides an early snapshot of Nyeri’s political climate but cautions that voter sentiment remains fluid.
