Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has broken his silence on recent claims that President William Ruto mentored him, amid their growing fallout and his removal as chair of Parliament’s Budget Committee.

Nyoro recounted an encounter with Ruto during a visit to Mt. Kenya, where the president addressed concerns over alleged misuse of office.

“There was a time the president came to Mt. Kenya and was hosted by a media station at his Sagana Lodge. It was the one I was being hounded around and his guys in parliament saying how I was misusing my position, and he was asked about my relationship with him,” Nyoro said.

On the issue of mentorship, Nyoro described his surprise at Ruto’s comments.

“Characteristically of him, he said I was a young man, he was mentoring, and I was left wondering how that mentoring was related to me and the kind of things I was going through. I knew, of course, some of the decisions must have come from a higher gauge. I wondered why someone would try to benefit from my miseries instead of just letting me suffer,” he added.

The MP’s revelations come at a tense time in Parliament, following his abrupt removal from the influential Budget Committee.

Nyoro’s statements suggest a disconnect between the president’s public gestures of mentorship and his own experiences within the corridors of power, highlighting a simmering friction between the two leaders.

Political analysts note that Nyoro’s narrative paints a picture of a young politician caught between high-level political strategies and personal challenges, raising questions about loyalty, influence, and the costs of navigating political allegiances in Kenya’s fast-evolving political landscape.

The controversy adds to an ongoing debate on the nature of mentorship in politics, particularly when it intersects with positions of authority and the management of parliamentary duties.

Nyoro’s comments signal that his relationship with Ruto may be shifting from one framed by guidance to one marked by scrutiny and tension, potentially reshaping his political trajectory.
