Lorna Simatwa, a member of the United Democratic Party (UDP), is mourning the sudden death of the party’s leader, Hon. Cyrus Jirongo, who died in a road accident on December 13.
Simatwa took to Facebook to share her shock and grief, revealing she had tried calling and messaging Jirongo just hours before learning of his passing.
“For the first time since I knew you, I have called you five times and my calls have not been answered. My text on WhatsApp stayed for almost an hour without a reply…so the first call I woke up today telling me that you are no more is true?” she wrote.
Simatwa reflected on promises Jirongo made to support her political journey, questioning what now happens to their plans.
Jirongo, a former Member of Parliament and founder of UDP, had been a prominent figure in Kenya’s political scene.
His sudden passing has left members of the party unsure about leadership continuity and strategies for the next general elections.
Simatwa’s post shows the personal and political impact of Jirongo’s death.
“Hon. Cyrus Jirongo, my party leader and friend, hii umenimaliza kabisaaaaa, naanzia wapi mimi?” she wrote, expressing the uncertainty now facing UDP members.
The circumstances surrounding the fatal crash are still under investigation.
Jirongo is scheduled to be buried in Lumakanda on December 30, with family, party members, and supporters expected to attend to pay their final respects.
