Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has made it clear when he becomes presidenct, he will initiate big economic changes.

In a post on X on Sunday, Salasya said his focus as president would be on creating jobs, boosting industry, and cutting the cost of fuel and electricity, not building more roads.

Salasya warned that millions of Kenyans are out of work and many are forced to take risky jobs abroad. “Kenyans should only go abroad as professionals or business people with proper contracts and good pay,” he said.

The MP also wants Kenya to become an industrial powerhouse.

He said his policies will encourage companies to produce locally instead of importing goods, turning Kenya into a net exporter and generating jobs at home.

Fuel and electricity costs, Salasya argued, are driving up prices across the country. He called on the government to stop adding more fuel levies, pointing out that petrol in Uganda is cheaper despite it being landlocked.

Lowering energy costs, he said, will tame inflation and make life more affordable for Kenyans.

While Salasya did not lay out a detailed plan, his statement makes it clear he is positioning himself as a presidential hopeful who wants to put the economy and ordinary Kenyans first.

His bold pitch is likely to spark debate ahead of the next election.
