Former Likuyani Member of Parliament Dr Enock Kibunguchy has died. The veteran politician passed away in the early hours of Tuesday, December 23, while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Eldoret, according to family sources and close associates.

Kibunguchy rose to national political attention in the 2002 General Election when he defeated the late Cyrus Jirongo in the Lugari parliamentary race, ending Jirongo’s tenure and marking a significant political shift in the constituency.

At the time, Lugari was among the most closely watched races in Western Kenya.

Following his victory, Kibunguchy served as Lugari MP from 2002 to 2007. After the constituency was later split into Lugari and Likuyani, he successfully transitioned to Likuyani politics, winning the seat in the 2013 General Election and retaining it in 2017.

In total, he served three terms in the National Assembly between 2002 and 2022. During his time in Parliament, he focused on education support programmes, road infrastructure, and access to health services for his constituents.

Leaders and residents from Kakamega County have described him as a calm and committed public servant whose political legacy will be remembered beyond party lines.
