Political activist Kasmuel McOure has finally addressed the controversy surrounding his departure from last year’s nationwide protest coalition, accusing some civil society organisations of prioritising the status quo over genuine political change.

In a statement on X, McOure said he led a coalition of 64 organisations, including political parties, social justice centres, and NGOs, during the protests.

He claimed he stepped away when it became clear that certain factions were more interested in “choreographed protest theatre” than actual reform.

“The loudest voices in the smear campaign that followed my exit were provoked by my political choices: supporting Joffri’s impeachment, joining ODM, and engaging openly with President William Ruto,” McOure said.

He added that the attacks on his reputation were based on perception, not fact, and challenged anyone to provide evidence against him.

McOure also called for audits of organisations involved in the coalition, citing recent fraud allegations against a previously celebrated civil society group.

He lamented the silence from prominent voices in the sector, describing it as “predictable” whenever accountability is raised.

Looking forward, McOure urged Kenyans to support credible organisations working for victims of abuse and gender-based violence.

He declared his political alignment with President William Ruto’s administration, emphasizing structured, public, and meaningful engagement over donor-funded theatrics.

Through the Broad Based Youth Front, McOure said, young activists now have a platform to participate in shaping Kenya’s future, promising “structure, accountability, and sustainability” in their political efforts.
