Nairobi CEC Geoffrey Mosiria.
Nairobi County CEC for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service Geoffrey Mosiria has urged Kenyans to focus on local opportunities following the United States’ suspension of the Green Card Lottery.
In a statement shared on social media, Mosiria reassured applicants that the lottery being on hold meant “hakuna stress, hakuna checking emails kila saa.”
He encouraged citizens to invest their energy in developing Kenya rather than seeking opportunities abroad.
Mosiria highlighted Kenya’s potential, comparing the country to Singapore in terms of development possibilities, but with local advantages like “sunshine na hakuna snow.”
He urged Kenyans to embrace both challenges and opportunities at home, stressing that the nation is “under construction” and requires active participation from its citizens.
“The message is clear: tujijenge hapa home. Why cry over America when we can make Kenya our America?” Mosiria wrote. He described Kenyans as the “mafundi” capable of building and improving their country from the ground up.
The statement comes amid global uncertainty surrounding US immigration programs.
The Green Card Lottery, officially known as the Diversity Visa Program, allows applicants from eligible countries to obtain permanent residency in the United States through a random selection process.
Its suspension has left thousands of applicants in Kenya awaiting further guidance.
While Mosiria’s message focuses on optimism and local development, experts note that many young Kenyans continue to view international opportunities as a pathway to economic growth.
His statement seeks to balance these aspirations with encouragement for citizens to contribute to Kenya’s progress.
