Kenya Power has been honoured with the Best Marketing Campaign – Public Sector award at the 2025 Marketing Society of Kenya (MSK) Awards for its ‘Nuru ya Kenya’ initiative.
The recognition underscores the utility’s effort to modernise customer engagement through digital channels, including the 977# service and the MyPower App.
The award was received by Waceke Mbugua, Kenya Power’s Head of Customer Experience, who highlighted the teamwork and creativity that drove the campaign.
“This achievement reflects the commitment and hard work of our teams to provide innovative solutions for our customers,” Mbugua said.
Launched to simplify electricity service interactions, the ‘Nuru ya Kenya’ campaign enables users to check balances, report outages, and manage accounts directly from their mobile devices.
By adopting digital platforms, Kenya Power joins a growing trend among Kenyan public institutions to enhance service delivery and accessibility in a country where mobile penetration continues to rise.
The MSK Awards, which celebrate marketing excellence across sectors, have increasingly recognised state-owned enterprises that implement technology-driven strategies to connect with the public.
For Kenya Power, the award adds to previous initiatives aimed at streamlining operations and improving transparency in billing and customer support.
Officials say campaigns like ‘Nuru ya Kenya’ are significant in Kenya’s broader push toward digital governance, where public agencies adopt online tools to improve efficiency and accountability.
Such programmes also resonate with a generation of consumers accustomed to mobile banking and online service platforms, bridging gaps between public utilities and urban and rural users alike.
Kenya Power thanked customers for their engagement, noting that feedback received during the campaign was critical to shaping the services offered.
The company also reaffirmed its commitment to ongoing innovation, promising continued efforts to expand and refine its digital offerings for households and businesses across Kenya.
With this award, Kenya Power positions itself as a leader among public utilities in adopting modern marketing approaches that not only promote services but also strengthen citizen interaction and convenience.
