Mumias East MP Peter Salasya was overcome with emotion on Christmas Eve after an unexpected surge of constituents visited his home in a rare show of public affection and trust.

In a statement shared on X, the first-term legislator said the turnout left him in tears, describing the moment as humbling and spiritually overwhelming.

Salasya noted that despite not being wealthy, thousands of residents chose to spend part of their Christmas Eve at his home, a gesture he said reflected deep trust rather than material expectation.

The MP attributed the gathering to what he termed God’s grace, saying no billionaire had ever hosted such a crowd, yet ordinary citizens found meaning in visiting him.

He said the experience reaffirmed his belief that leadership is rooted in service, faith, and responsibility to the people.

Salasya emphasized that the visit was not motivated by handouts or gifts, noting that the love shown went beyond “sugar or small tokens.”

Instead, he said, it reflected a strong bond between him and the electorate he serves.

The Mumias East lawmaker has built a reputation for close engagement with residents, often sharing his political journey and personal reflections on social media.

The Christmas Eve gathering showed his growing popularity in the constituency and highlighted the emotional connection many voters feel toward leaders they perceive as accessible and grounded.
