Head of Presidential Projects and the Creative Economy Dennis Itumbi has announced a major government intervention targeting cartels accused of exploiting Kenyan musicians and creatives for years.

In a statement shared on X, Itumbi said the government had dismantled networks he claims were siphoning millions of shillings meant for artists through unfair systems and opaque dealings.

He described the move as a decisive step toward cleaning up the music industry and protecting creatives from exploitation.

Itumbi credited President William Ruto, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, and Head of Public Service Felix Koskei for providing the political support that enabled the crackdown.

He noted that the process was not easy but said the backing from top government leadership made it possible to act.

The announcement comes amid long-standing complaints from musicians over unpaid royalties, exploitative contracts, and lack of transparency in the industry.

The government has positioned reforms in the creative economy as part of its broader agenda to support artists, create jobs, and ensure fair compensation for creative work.
