Political leadership has expressed deep sympathies following the passing of Sidi Karisa, mother of former Gender and Culture Cabinet Secretary Aisha Jumwa.

Jumwa announced her mother’s death on Sunday evening, with burial scheduled for Monday evening in line with Islamic traditions.

Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir was among the first to convey his condolences, describing the loss of a mother as “profound.”

“I convey my deepest condolences to Hon. Aisha Jumwa and her family following the passing of Mama Sidi Karisa. May the Almighty grant you strength, patience, and solace, and may Mama Sidi’s soul rest in everlasting peace,” Nassir said.

Mining Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho also paid tribute, highlighting Sidi Karisa’s impact both within her family and the wider community.

“Mama Sidi was a remarkable woman of great influence, strength, and grace. She lived a life defined by unwavering devotion to her family and a deep sense of responsibility to her community,” Joho noted.

He further prayed for comfort and peace for the bereaved family, adding that her legacy of love and wisdom will remain with all who knew her.

Sports and Youth Affairs Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya echoed similar sentiments, offering prayers for the family’s resilience.

“May Allah grant the family, relatives, and all those affected patience and strength during this moment of deep sorrow. May Mama Sidi rest in eternal peace. Our thoughts and prayers are with you,” Mvurya stated.

Sidi Karisa’s death has prompted expressions of sympathy across political and social circles, reflecting her role as a guiding figure in the life of Hon. Jumwa, who has served in multiple leadership capacities, including representing Kilifi County at the national level.

The matriarch’s commitment to family values and community service was frequently cited by leaders as a hallmark of her life.

The scheduled Islamic burial on Monday evening will see family, friends, and community members gather to pay their final respects.

Public figures and colleagues have already taken to social media to honour Sidi Karisa’s life, celebrating her dedication, guidance, and the nurturing influence she had on her children.
