Police have revealed new details in the death of Evans Mwaura Githua, the chief executive officer of Nairobi-based ICT firm Com Twenty One Limited, after discovering what they describe as clear evidence of self-harm inside the room where he had been staying.
Githua, 51, was found dead on December 23 behind Alba Apartments along Kasuku Road.
Investigators believe he fell from the 14th floor of the building, where he had booked a short-stay room the previous night.
According to police accounts, officers were forced to break into the room after it was found locked from the inside.
Inside, detectives documented extensive blood stains spread across the bedsitter, washroom, wardrobe area, and bed, indicating injuries sustained before the fall.
Police said the deceased had deep cuts on both wrists, believed to have been self-inflicted using sharp objects recovered from the room.
A chair was also found inside the shower area alongside a towel, which investigators say pointed to attempted self-harm.
Several items were recovered from the scene, including two mobile phones switched to flight mode, alcoholic drinks, medication, and personal belongings.
No signs of a struggle or third-party involvement were found.
The apartment owner confirmed that Githua checked in alone on the night of December 22.
His family later alerted authorities after he failed to return home and could not be reached, which they said was out of character.
Police have classified the death as suspected suicide, pending a post-mortem examination.
The body was taken to the mortuary for an autopsy and further investigations.
Githua’s death has sent shockwaves through the technology sector. Com Twenty One Limited is a major ICT solutions provider serving both public institutions and private organisations across Kenya.
