Wahome Thuku Paints a Calm but Stagnant Future Under Kalonzo Presidency

Lawyer and political commentator Wahome Thuku has offered a striking prediction of what Kenya could look like under Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s presidency, describing it as a period of calmness without major progress.

In a widely shared social media post, Thuku portrayed Kalonzo as a leader who values peace and order but lacks the drive to push transformative change.

He quoted an acquaintance who once summarized Kalonzo’s leadership character in one sentence: “Kalonzo cannot kill you, but Kalonzo can never prevent your being killed.”

Thuku explained that this statement captured the essence of what he believes a Kalonzo presidency would be — safe but uninspiring.

“Under Kalonzo Musyoka’s presidency, Kenya will not go backward. But it won’t move forward. Kenyans will not be angry, but they won’t be happy either,” he wrote.

According to the lawyer, Kalonzo’s administration would be one of moderation, where the country maintains stability without the ambition for major growth.

He compared it to the quiet routine of a retired civil servant who “wakes up in the morning, spends the day, eats lunch, reads the newspaper, enjoys a beer, then repeats the same the next day.”

Thuku also suggested that while Kalonzo would likely maintain a clean personal record, he might be unwilling to confront corruption within government.

“He will not be corrupt like what we have now, but he will not stop anyone from eating the government,” he remarked, hinting at passive leadership on accountability issues.

Kalonzo Musyoka, who served as Kenya’s vice president from 2008 to 2013, has positioned himself as a unifying figure ahead of the 2027 general election.
