The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has dismissed claims by Deputy President William Ruto’s ally, Rigathi Gachagua, who alleged threats against him while campaigning for his preferred candidate in Mbeere North.

In a statement posted on Facebook, the ruling party described the allegations as “unfounded” and said they were part of a political distraction.

UDA criticized Gachagua’s letter to the Inspector General of Police, saying the claims, which involved UDA officials such as Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire and Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku, were baseless.

The party described the allegations as exaggerated and lacking supporting evidence, adding that campaigns in Mbeere North have proceeded without incidents of violence.

The party also defended its candidate, Hon. Leo Wamuthende, describing him as widely supported by the electorate.

UDA emphasized that its campaign has focused on lawful political engagement and community development, with no record of aggression or intimidation.

According to UDA, Gachagua’s claims come amid wider disputes within his DCP Party, including accusations of financial impropriety.

The party urged the DCP leader to resolve outstanding issues, such as the alleged defrauding of a prospective parliamentary candidate, before engaging in public allegations.

“The people of Mbeere are focused on development and governance, not political theatrics,” UDA stated, reaffirming its commitment to democratic and peaceful campaigning.

The statement also warned against attempts to drag Wamuthende into political disputes unrelated to the constituency’s interests.

Mbeere North has attracted national attention following the vacancy of the parliamentary seat, with the by-election scheduled amid heightened political activity.

UDA’s response comes as voters in the constituency continue to prioritize service delivery and local development.

The party underscored that its campaign will remain focused on these issues, maintaining law and order, and avoiding provocations from opposing parties.

UDA called on all political players to respect peaceful conduct and allow residents to participate in a free and transparent electoral process.
