Siaya Governor James Orengo has described the late Raila Odinga as a political giant whose influence will continue to shape Kenya long after his passing.

Speaking at Raila’s Opoda Farm in Bondo, Siaya County, Orengo reflected on the profound impact the former opposition leader had on the nation.

Orengo addressed a delegation led by Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, who visited the Odinga family to pay their respects.

He said many Kenyans had come to view Raila as an almost immortal figure because of his decades of leadership and resilience in championing democracy.

“We thought Raila was immortal and would live forever. But whatever you do, remember that you are not immortal. And for those who doubted his impact, even in death, Raila is more powerful than they ever imagined," the Siaya governor said.

The governor also called for unity across Kenya, warning against tribal divisions that continue to fragment the country.

He said honoring Raila’s legacy meant building a Kenya based on shared values rather than regional or ethnic loyalty.

“This talk of saying one is from Bondo and another from Ukambani — I don’t want to hear that. Today is a reflection of what Kenya truly is, and that is what Baba wanted," Orengo stated.

Orengo’s remarks resonated with the crowd gathered at the farm, many of whom shared stories of Raila’s courage and dedication to the country.

The visit by Kalonzo and his delegation was part of a broader wave of national leaders and dignitaries paying tribute to the late ODM leader.

The governor’s message emphasized that Raila’s legacy is more than political achievements; it is a call to unity, reflection, and commitment to the values he championed throughout his life.
