The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) strengthened its foothold in Kenya’s political landscape after clinching 12 seats in Thursday’s by-elections, a development the party says reflects widespread public support for President William Ruto.

Speaking at the party headquarters, Hustler Plaza, Secretary General Senator Hassan Omar described the results as evidence of UDA’s national appeal ahead of the 2027 general election.

The by-election victories spanned several counties, including high-profile wins such as the Baringo Senate seat secured by Kiprono Chemitei.

In the parliamentary contests, UDA candidates emerged victorious in Mbeere North, Malava, and Banisa constituencies, with Leo Wamuthende, David Ndakwa, and Ahmed Hassan taking the respective seats.

Some candidates, including Philip Kipruto of Metkei in Elgeyo Marakwet and Reuben Kigen from Tembelio–Uasin Gishu, were elected unopposed, highlighting the party’s entrenched position in certain regions.

Other contested seats were won by Amos Mpusia (Purko–Kajiado), Vincent Ruto (Chemundu–Nandi), John Namesek (Lake Zone–Turkana), and Cosmas Napeikar (Nanaam–Turkana), demonstrating UDA’s reach across diverse counties.

Senator Omar also highlighted the victories of women candidates Isabella Leshimpiro (Angata Nyanyokie–Samburu) and Sophia Maro (Chewani–Tana River), framing their success as a contribution to the broader representation of women in politics.

He dismissed criticism from opposition parties and social media commentators, emphasizing that securing 12 of 21 contested seats reflects sustained voter confidence in the party.

Historically, by-elections in Kenya serve as indicators of national sentiment, often providing a snapshot of party strength ahead of general elections.

UDA’s performance in this cycle reinforces its position as a dominant political force, especially in regions considered its strongholds, while also signaling potential shifts in voter alignment in marginal areas.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has confirmed the official results, with all declared winners set to assume office according to statutory timelines.

UDA officials have indicated that they will build on this momentum in preparation for the 2027 general election, continuing efforts to consolidate support across urban and rural constituencies.
