Former MP Credits Rigathi Gachagua for Strengthening Opposition Unity

Former Mukurwini MP Kabando Wa Kabando has urged opposition leaders to consolidate efforts ahead of the 2027 general elections, citing historical lessons from Kenya’s 1992 and 1997 polls.

In a statement shared on X, Kabando noted that disunity and internal rivalries prevented the opposition from securing the presidency and several parliamentary seats, despite commanding strong voter support at the time.

Kabando singled out Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, referring to him as “DCP leader RiggyG,” for his role in fostering cooperation among opposition parties.

He argued that Gachagua’s initiatives have created a “United Opposition” capable of challenging President William Ruto’s administration.

“For practical and pragmatic unity of purpose, we stand in unflinching, unapologetic solidarity stewarded by Gìtungati 001, Rigathi Gachagua,” Kabando wrote.

The former MP highlighted regional political dynamics, noting the strategic importance of vote-rich areas, including Mt. Kenya and coastal constituencies like Magarini. Kabando warned that attempts to fragment opposition support through internal conflicts or rival factions, including what he termed “crooked Kasongoist raids,” would likely fail.

Kabando also directly criticized President Ruto, branding his tenure as a political threat to opposition goals.

He suggested that the current administration’s attempts to influence opposition parties could backfire, potentially energizing voters in regions historically aligned with parties such as ODM and Wiper.

“Your plot to ‘eat’ ODM is stale,” Kabando wrote, emphasizing that opposition momentum is growing ahead of the next election cycle.
