Former ODM Executive Director Wafula Buke has alleged a calculated political scheme behind Governor Mutahi Kahiga’s controversial remarks mocking the late Raila Odinga, warning that the episode reflects deeper state-sponsored manipulation meant to divide Kenyans.

In a lengthy Facebook post on Thursday, Buke described Kahiga’s comments as “madness” and claimed they were part of a broader strategy by key political players to reshape national loyalties following Raila’s death.

According to Buke, the sequence of events at the ODM leader’s funeral — from Uhuru Kenyatta’s well-received speech at Nyayo Stadium to President William Ruto’s mixed reception in Bondo — revealed a hidden agenda.

He suggested that Raila’s funeral had been turned into a “political theatre” aimed at rebranding Uhuru as a credible national voice while simultaneously protecting Ruto’s political base.

“The Master of Ceremony duped the crowd by mentioning Uhuru first to ignite cheers, then switched back to Ruto as president,” Buke wrote. “The scheme was to hide Ruto in Uhuru’s applause.”

Buke further alleged that Kahiga’s remarks and their quick circulation online, reportedly amplified by digital strategist Dennis Itumbi, were orchestrated to “split the country in Ruto’s favor.”

He also claimed Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga’s reaction was part of a larger plot to weaponize divisions within ODM.

“The government is beheading Uhuru as a potential unifier of national forces against the UDA government,” Buke stated, warning that more “mysterious and outrageous happenings” could follow.
