Kileleshwa Ward MCA Robert Alai has dismissed recent safety warnings by human rights activist Boniface Mwangi, labeling them as “fake stories” and questioning both his influence and relevance.
Alai’s remarks came after Mwangi revealed that a spent bullet casing was found in his carry-on luggage at Malindi Airport, an incident he described as a direct threat to his life.
Mwangi also detailed previous attacks, arrests, and alleged harassment spanning more than a decade, which he linked to government intimidation amid his political engagements.
In a social media post, Alai criticized Mwangi sharply: “Boniface Mwangi has all these fake stories and fools cheering him like Kibwana thinks that all Kenyans are foolish and they will make him popular based on such nonsense.”
He added, “Boniface Mwangi is NOT a youth. Let alone the imagination that he is popular.”
Alai’s comments highlight a growing divide among Kenyan public figures regarding Mwangi’s credibility.
While some view him as a dedicated advocate for civic freedoms, others see his actions as politically motivated attempts to gain attention.
Mwangi, a well-known pro-democracy campaigner, has previously survived multiple incidents, including being shot with a teargas canister in 2017, a pipe bomb explosion at his family home in 2021, and repeated arrests over alleged plots against the government.
He has also faced social media harassment, surveillance, and smear campaigns targeting his activism.
