Rescue operations are ongoing in Mombasa after a racing boat, MV Dragon, capsized along Tudor Creek on Saturday morning, leaving three people missing and several others rescued.

Governor Abdulswamad Nassir visited the site accompanied by the County Security Team and local leaders to oversee the response efforts.

According to the governor, 19 people had been rescued by the time of his visit, while search teams were still looking for three others who remain unaccounted for.

The joint rescue operation is being led by the Mombasa County Fire and Rescue Services, with support from the Kenya Navy, the Coast Guard, the Kenya Forest Service, the Red Cross, ACE Ambulance Services, and volunteer divers.

“We commend the bravery and swift response of all teams involved,” Governor Nassir stated on X, noting that volunteer divers led by Corporal Kibwana had played a key role in the ongoing mission.

He urged residents to remain calm and allow professionals to continue the delicate recovery operation.

The governor was accompanied by Jomvu MP Bady Twalib, Mikindani MCA Jack Madialo, and County Security Chairman Mohamed Nur.

Together, they assessed the situation and coordinated efforts to ensure that all missing persons are accounted for.

The incident has drawn widespread concern in Mombasa, where water sports and boat racing are popular, especially during festivals.

Authorities are expected to investigate the cause of the capsizing once the rescue and recovery operations are completed.

Governor Nassir extended his condolences to the families affected, saying the county stands with them during this difficult time.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with all affected families,” he said.
