Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma has announced a personal and political transformation inspired by the late opposition leader Raila Odinga, vowing to forgive his political rivals and to dedicate himself to the values Raila stood for.

In a reflective post on X, Kaluma said his decision was a tribute to Raila’s lifelong fight for justice, unity, and democracy.

“In honour of Baba Raila Odinga, I have forgiven everybody I disagreed with over the principles Baba stood for,” he wrote.

Kaluma, known for his fiery political statements, signaled a new tone of reconciliation and patriotism, promising to carry forward the ideals that defined Raila’s political life.

“I will continue to fight for equity, inclusivity, accountability, rule of law, human rights and fundamental freedoms,” he added.

The MP also pledged to abandon divisive rhetoric, saying he would no longer brand anyone a tribalist but instead seek to nurture the nationalist spirit that Raila embodied.

“I will never call anyone tribalist,” Kaluma said. “I will instead let the nationalist spirit of Baba inject patriotism and the understanding that Kenya is equally owned by all citizens into their hearts.”

Kaluma’s remarks have drawn attention as part of a broader wave of introspection among ODM members and Raila’s supporters since the veteran leader’s passing.

His message, steeped in forgiveness and unity, reflects a growing sentiment within the opposition that the best way to honour Raila is through upholding his ideals rather than deepening political divisions.
