ODM Stands Firm in Broad-Based Government, Cherargei Applauds Sifuna’s Commitment

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has confirmed it will remain part of Kenya’s broad-based government until 2027, a position that has drawn praise from Nandi Senator Kiprotich Cherargei.

The announcement came after ODM’s Central Committee meeting on Monday, where key resolutions were made on the party’s political direction following Raila Odinga’s death.

ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna said the decision was anchored on the party’s long-term goal of safeguarding peace and stability in the country.

In a statement, he reaffirmed ODM’s resolve to uphold a working relationship within the government based on a shared 10-point agenda.

“As ODM leadership, we reiterate the commitment of ODM to the broad-based government until 2027. A relationship guided by the 10-point agenda for the sake of peace and stability of the country,” Sifuna said.

Senator Cherargei, a close ally of President William Ruto, responded shortly after Sifuna’s remarks, commending the ODM official for aligning with the government’s development agenda.

He interpreted the statement as a gesture of reconciliation and political maturity.

“Well done Sifuna for retracing your steps in atoning your sins and for pledging loyalty to ODM Party and the broad-based government led by President Ruto. This in honour of Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga. For now, you are forgiven and your Secretary General position in ODM Party is secure,” Cherargei said in his post on X.

ODM’s stance signals an effort to preserve internal unity and maintain its role in Kenya’s governance structure.
