The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) headquarters at Chungwa House turned somber on Friday as party officials, led by Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna, met families of four Kenyans who died while mourning the late Raila Odinga.
The families of Vincent Otieno Ogutu, Evan Onyango Kiche, Josfae Jida Burka, and Josephine Akeng’o were invited by ODM to share their grief and receive condolences from the party.
The four were among those killed in separate incidents at Kasarani and Nyayo Stadium, where chaotic scenes erupted as thousands gathered to view the former Prime Minister’s body.
In his message on X, Sifuna said the meeting was more than a condolence gesture — it was a commitment to justice.
“We extended our condolences and support on behalf of the entire ODM family, especially in the search for justice for these needless deaths,” he wrote.
Sources at the meeting described the atmosphere as deeply emotional, with Sifuna reaffirming that ODM would stand with the bereaved until full accountability is achieved.
He emphasized that the lives lost were a painful reminder of the need for better crowd management and humane policing during national events.
Human rights groups have already called for an independent probe into the shootings and stampedes that marked Raila Odinga’s public viewing ceremonies.
Many Kenyans have also questioned why a moment meant for unity and mourning turned tragic.
For the grieving families, ODM’s gesture provided both comfort and renewed hope.
