In a public message posted on X, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino described the late Raila Odinga as his mentor, father figure, and guiding light in life and politics.
Owino recalled growing up fatherless and finding in Raila a surrogate parent who offered counsel, support, and a political pathway when he arrived in Nairobi.
Owino’s tribute struck a deeply personal tone: “When I came to Nairobi … he took me under his wings and became my father both in politics and in life,” he wrote.
He called Odinga "my greatest hero” and admitted the pain of loss “leaves a hole, that only God can fill.”
He also addressed Odinga’s immediate family directly, offering solace to Ida Odinga, Rose, Junior, Winnie, and their grandchildren.
Owino prayed for comfort and strength that transcend understanding during their grief.
While mourning, he affirmed Odinga’s lasting legacy as a leader who dedicated himself to Kenya.
Owino called him “a fierce champion for the people” whose impact will remain undimmed.
He concluded with poignant words: “You have fought the good fight. You have finished the race. Rest well Jakom. Your light will never fade.”
News of Raila Odinga’s death has dominated headlines across East Africa. Reactions have poured in from political actors, civil society leaders, and ordinary Kenyans.
Many have stressed that his passing could reshape opposition politics and open space for new leadership voices.
Among those watching closely are observers who suggest figures like Babu Owino may rise in influence within the opposition ranks.
In social media discussions, some have urged that Owino step into a more central role in the movement.
Raila Odinga’s death marks the end of a political era in Kenya. In his tribute, Babu Owino did more than mourn a leader—he affirmed a bond formed in personal adversity and solidarity in political struggle.
