Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba has come out guns blazing after being labelled a “mole” for attending the funeral of Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah’s father.
In a lengthy statement to Kenyans, Wamuchomba said she was shocked that what she considered a simple act of compassion has now been twisted into betrayal.
According to her, she only attended the burial to comfort Ichung’wah’s elder sister, whom she described as a close friend and supporter.
“Extending my condolences has cost me my peace and dignity. I stood with my friend, not for politics,” she explained, adding that the claims linking her to pro-government politics were unfounded.
Wamuchomba also challenged her critics to bring proof of the alleged remarks that Ichung’wah reportedly made in her presence.
“No clip has been produced, and some of those who spread the claims have already apologised,” she said.
The outspoken MP, who subscribes to the opposition, reminded her followers of her track record — from rejecting unpopular bills in Parliament to fighting for farmers, women, and victims of police brutality.
She said it was ironic that the same people she defended from unlawful arrests were now vilifying her.
“This is nothing but political bullying meant to silence me,” she wrote. “I will not be intimidated into supporting leaders I don’t believe in or dragged into tribal politics for the sake of political correctness.”
Wamuchomba declared that her loyalty remains with her constituents and the opposition, vowing to keep speaking truth to power.
“I will never praise a failed system or selfish patrons who behave like small gods. I am the woman for the job,” she said.
