Brenda Biya, daughter of Cameroon’s president Paul Biya, has shaken up the country’s political conversation after urging voters not to return her father to power in next year’s election.
Speaking during a TikTok live session, Brenda—better known to her fans as “King Nasty”—accused her father’s regime of trapping Cameroon in decades of poverty, joblessness, and economic stagnation.
She described his 43-year rule as a stumbling block to progress and called on citizens to embrace change in the October 2025 polls.
Paul Biya, now 92, has led Cameroon since 1982, making him Africa’s oldest serving head of state. His tenure has long drawn criticism over corruption, authoritarian practices, and disputed elections.
Despite this, Biya has repeatedly extended his stay in power, often through contested landslides.
Brenda’s call is historic: it is the first known instance in Africa where the child of a sitting president has openly urged voters to reject their own parent.
Her remarks spread quickly online, sparking both praise and skepticism.
While some citizens welcomed her courage in breaking ranks with her father, critics pointed out her privileged background.
Living mostly abroad, Brenda is known for displaying a luxurious lifestyle on social media, which many argue sets her apart from the realities faced by everyday Cameroonians.
The timing of her intervention has intensified debate about generational divides and dissatisfaction within Cameroon’s political class.
Whether Brenda’s dramatic appeal will influence voter sentiment remains uncertain, but it has already added an unexpected twist to the country’s charged election season.
