Fresh questions have emerged over Kenya’s role in a reported international health arrangement after the Daily Nation on Thursday, May 28, claimed the country had agreed to host Ebola-related quarantine facilities linked to the United States.

According to the publication, Kenya is said to have entered into a deal to host a quarantine facility for individuals at risk of, or infected with, the Ebola virus.

The report links the arrangement to a recent outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo and neighbouring Uganda, raising concerns about regional health security.

The headline report suggests the deal is associated with former US President Donald Trump, a claim that has since sparked questions over transparency and public health preparedness.

The government, however, has not provided detailed information about the alleged agreement, instead issuing a brief response indicating that any international health cooperation would be guided by Kenyan law and national interest.

Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale was quoted emphasizing that safeguarding the health and welfare of Kenyans remains the government’s top priority.

His statement did not directly confirm or deny the existence of the deal but sought to reassure the public on adherence to legal and safety protocols.

The development comes amid heightened concern over Ebola cases in the region. Data referenced in the report indicates over 900 suspected cases in the Democratic Republic of Congo, with confirmed infections and fatalities already recorded.

The proximity of the outbreak has placed East African countries, including Kenya, on high alert.

Public reaction has been mixed, with some Kenyans questioning why the country would consider hosting foreign patients when even developed nations appear reluctant.

Critics argue that such a move could expose the country to unnecessary health risks, while others note that international cooperation is critical in managing global health threats.

Medical experts have previously stressed the importance of strict containment measures, including quarantine and surveillance, in preventing the spread of Ebola.

Kenya has in the past implemented screening protocols at entry points during similar outbreaks.

As questions continue to mount, attention is now shifting to the government for a clearer explanation.

The issue is expected to dominate public discourse, particularly on matters of national safety, foreign policy, and the country’s role in global health responses.
